The TPS55289 is a 30V, 8A Buck-Boost Converter with I2C Interface

The TPS55289 is an AOT10N60 synchronous buck-boost converter optimized for converting battery voltage or adapter voltage to power rails. The TPS55289 integrates four MOSFET switches to provide a compact solution for USB Power Delivery (USB PD) applications.

The TPS55289 has input voltage capability up to 30V. Through the I 2 C interface, the output voltage of the TPS55289 can be set from 0.8V to 22V in 10mV steps. When operating in boost mode, the device can deliver 60W from a 12V input. It is capable of delivering 45W from a 9V input voltage.

The TPS55289 uses an average current mode control scheme. The switching frequency is programmable from 200 kHz to 2.2 MHz via an external resistor and can be synchronized to an external clock. The TPS55289 also offers optional spread spectrum to minimize peak EMI.

The TPS55289 provides output overvoltage protection, average inductor current limit, cycle-by-cycle peak current limit, and output short-circuit protection. The TPS55289 also ensures that it operates safely under sustained overload conditions with selectable output current limit and hiccup mode protection.

The TPS55289 can use small inductors and small capacitors with high switching frequencies. It is available in a 3.0-mm × 5.0-mm QFN package.
